This unit examines Ireland’s civil and criminal laws regulating speech on social media. In particular, the unit examines proposed changes to legislation governing criminal sanctions for certain harmful speech and how the court’s of Ireland and England and Wales have dealt with defamation on social media. The unit concludes with an examination of social media’s impact on the administration of justice.
